6 Tips for Moving into a Custom Home

Moving into a new home can be an exciting time for new homeowners. However, it can be a stressful, time-consuming experience. Here at Steven D. Smith, we will not only help make the building process as convenient as possible, but we make sure our homeowners are successfully set to move in for endless enjoyment. Read on to discover 6 ways to ease your moving experience.

  1. Create a Checklist

Homeowners who plan ahead to stay on track are the most prepared. The best way to keep organized and stress-free is to create a master checklist. Especially, as a first-time custom home buyer, we understand moving can be an overwhelming process. List all of your tasks in order of importance. What needs to be done now? What can wait? Take it a step further and include timelines in your checklist to help track your progress.

  1. Pack Early

Packing up can be the most tedious part of the moving process. Therefore, once you have a move in date confirmed, we highly recommend packing as soon as possible. Try coordinating a set plan of how to pack items and if packing materials are necessary. Also, start room to room to keep organized.

  1. Labels

Once items are packed up and ready to move, make sure to utilize labels. Name the item(s) and the room it will be in on the packaging to avoid any confusion and stress while unpacking. You will not want to have kitchen items meant for downstairs to be accidentally placed in an upstairs bedroom. Additionally, using different color labels is a great way to categorize items and the rooms they belong in.

  1. Movers Ensure Safety

While homeowners are preoccupied with all that comes with moving, it is important to not neglect safety, especially on moving day. To ensure complete safety, hiring professional movers will allow you and/or family members to refrain from moving items, especially items that are quite heavy and delicate. Movers will have the proper equipment and experience to move all of your belongings safely.

  1. Update with New Address

Before you move in, it is important to make sure to change your address and file change of address forms at the post office (which can be completed online as well). Furthermore, update your driver’s license, debit and credit cards, auto insurance, voter registration, and more. This way, you can be sure that important bills and general mail will not get lost or delayed.

  1. Relax

Moving is hard work! After a long day of unpacking and getting situated, you can finally relax. You did it! Now, it is time to enjoy your home. Buying a new custom home is an amazing feat and privilege.  Unwind and appreciate this sentimental moment. Get to know your neighbors, community and recreation around you. Congratulations new homeowner!
